By humorously creating a society in which all the smart people have left Earth—and we're what's left—Craft makes you question the social mores we all take for granted and wonder what we could accomplish if we were all just a little smarter. From a peace rally that ends with people throwing peace symbols at each other to an outsider's take on Shakespeare, the author makes you look at our society differently through humor and surprise.

A great science-fiction that makes us question the society we live in (which is increasingly resembling that of the book).

#3 Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang

In my opinion, the book Story of Your Life, by Ted Chiang which is the base for the blockbuster movie “Arrival” is one of the most thought-provoking sci-fi books ever. It especially taught us to question the essence of time (or rather, the illusion of time), and what actually would happen if we are not bound by time. If you are religious (or even, if you are not), you’ll also start to question the nature of that higher being who is not bound by time, and how he/she can affect our lives due to that knowledge that is not bound by time. Very interesting read.
