Based on an all-time best video game franchise and centred around one of the greatest female video game characters to date, Tomb Raider is predicted to be a box office smash and with a solid director and cast, including academy award winning Alicia Vikander as the starring role, it’s expected to gain critical success as well. That’s all well and good but consider this: when has there EVER been a good movie based on a video game? Super Mario Bros, Mortal Combat, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Final Fantasy, all of these franchises were adapted to film and not one was critically successful. Even the better ones are debatably good at best and the worst ones should never be seen by man. And let’s not forget another video game movie bomb, Tomb Raider. Yes, an attempt to bring Lara Croft to the big screen has been made before, and it failed. It may have been financially successful but critics either laughed at it or panned it. However, even though Tomb Raider was a bad movie it is still one of the best video game movies out there and I think that shows potential for a Tomb Raider Movie. I hope 2018’s Tomb Raider succeeds where so many others have failed.
