So the time has come for you to finally meet your girlfriend’s parents. This is, of course, an exciting time, so why do you feel so nervous? It’s fine, relax, this is going to be okay!
Here are some tips and tricks on how to make a good impression on your girlfriend’s parents.
#1 Show interest
If they’ve recently moved ask how they like their new town, or if there was a wedding in the family, ask how they enjoyed it, etc., keeping the subjects light and not overly personal.

#2 Show Respect
You have to look the dad dead in the eye for a couple seconds when shaking his hand. This will show respect. The mom, you ask her if you can hug her instead of shaking hands. Tell her you are more of a hugger! This will build a more emotional connection which is more important to women!

#3 Conversation Starter
The best way to start the conversation would be to say “It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’ve heard so many nice things about you.” Be prepared to be asked what those might be, so if necessary ask your girlfriend for possibilities - like her pride in their professional achievements, or her mom or dad’s great cooking, etc.

#4 Express sincere admiration
Be sure to express sincere admiration of any effort they’ve made, inviting you out to dinner or providing a meal at their home, etc. It’s important that they know you’re appreciative of any generosity or graciousness on their part.

#5 Be complimentary
Anything complimentary you can say about their daughter (rated PG, of course) will be helpful, for example, “I admire Emma’s ability to pull a team together and develop a worthwhile project. That charity marathon she organized was amazing.” Let them know that you admire their daughter as a person - for a wide range of qualities and talents.

#6 Dress to Impress
Make sure you’re dressed to impress. Look neat, clean and classy. Dress for the role that you want. You wouldn’t go to a job interview in a bathing suit and they likely want to see their daughter with a man who will get the job.

#7 Show Your Love
Showing your girlfriend's parents that their daughter is protected and loved by being genuine is important. If there is a way that you always look out after her, let them know.
