Admission Process for India
MBA admission process in top MBA colleges opens every year in July/August and closes after 2-3 months from the opening date. Although the MBA admission process in India for all the top MBA colleges is almost similar, the difference is their acceptability of the MBA entrance exam score. While most colleges determine a candidate’s eligibility based on the Common Admissions Test (CAT), others have set out their entrance exam.
Irrespective of the entrance exam and other factors, the standard eligibility criteria for all universities are as follows:
- Complete graduation in any stream, from a recognized university
- A minimum aggregate score of 50%
Students who do not meet the above criteria are not eligible for admission to any MBA program in the country. Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and the individuals who have finished degree prerequisites and are anticipating results can apply for the CAT exam. If selected, such applicants will be permitted to join the program temporarily, only if they present a certificate.
Common Admissions Test (CAT)
The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a computer-based test for admission in a graduate management program. The test scores a candidate on the bases of Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation, and Logical Reasoning. The exam is conducted once a year and lasts 180 minutes. The language of the examination is English. The pattern consists of 100 questions in MCQ as well as non-MCQ format. General category candidates wishing to register for the exam need to pay Rs. 1900. On average, 2 lakh students appear for the exam each year.
The CAT exam, like all-important exams, utilizes multiple forms, or versions, of the test. Hence, there are two types of scores involved: a raw score and a scaled score. Candidates are given +3 points for each correct answer and -1 point for each incorrect answer. No points are given for unanswered questions. The raw scores are then adjusted through a process called equating. Equated raw scores are then placed on a standard scale or metric to ensure appropriate interpretation of the scores.
The Common Admissions Test (CAT) is just one part of what is usually a multiple-step process for admission into the University for the Pursuit of an MBA program. Due to the vast number of students applying to management courses, the selection process filters out candidates based on a variety of factors. The process is explained in further detail below:

Candidates desirous of seeking admission in top MBA colleges should register and apply for the relevant MBA entrance exam within the specified registration window.

The process is completed by each institute individually.
GD-PI-WAT Round
