The two undisputed heavy hitters of the American grunge scene that became so dominant in the 1990s scene, both these bands emerged from the same city and arguably pioneered the same movement. Perhaps it was this closeness that caused so much friction between the two, with Nirvana lead man Kurt Cobain leading the line in labelling Pearl Jam as little more than band jumpers. Battles for chart positions, recognisability in the market and establishing themselves for their cult followings became some of the focal ‘battlegrounds’ for these two ’90s heavy hitters across their feud.
