When my sister and I first started our business, Impish Lee, we had no experience or understanding of how to be a boss. We’d never done it before. We ran an internship program our first summer after launching and really had to learn how to be good bosses. Although we wanted our interns to have fun and learn new things, we also needed them to be productive and work hard. That summer was crucial for us to discovery the fine line between good friend and good boss. We learned that there are certain boundaries between employers and employees. Having interns helped us practice these skills before diving straight into hiring employees.
