Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl (1/16)

Roald Dahl’s Danny the Champion of the World is one of my favorite read aloud. Kids already love Roald Dahl from seeing the movies of BFG, Mathilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, so selling them on the idea of another book by a favorite author is a no brainer. Unlike the others, however, Danny the Champion of the World has no magic. It is a real story about a real boy. Well, it could be, in any case. And unlike Mathilda whose parents are putrid and James in the Giant Peach whose parents are dead, Danny has the father that we all wish we could be as parents—patient, affirmative, connected, imaginative. This feel-good story will delight parents and children alike.
