Your tires have a lot to say when it comes to your car’s performance. After all, they’re what connects your car to the ground. 1. Fuel Efficiency
You may not have known that your tires can affect your fuel efficiency. Your tire’s rolling resistance—which is the pressure that your tire puts on the road—is one of these factors. One thing you should do is check your tire pressure every month. Refer to the label on the drivers’ side of the car that lists the correct air pressure for your vehicle and be sure to maintain that number.
2. Tread
Tire treads are what determine your vehicle’s traction. Tread is especially important for adverse weather conditions such as rain and snow. Your tread should always be a priority, and this is especially true for someone who lives in an area with regularly wet weather. A simple way to check if you need new tires is to place a penny with Lincoln’s head facing down into one of the grooves of your tire. If you can see Lincoln’s forehead, it may be time to consider replacing your tires.
3. Wheel Size
From a cosmetic standpoint, the size of your wheels affects the look and feel of your car, but there are other practical factors as well. Larger wheels make your car more stable, which helps determine your personal comfort while driving. They also shorten the span of your breaking distance. A small wheel, on the other hand, aids you in making a tighter turn. Keep in mind that if you choose to adjust your tire size, you will need to factor in the cost and labor of rims as well. You may find the difference in size positively changes your driving experience.
4. Durability
The materials your tires were made from, as well as the process of their assembly, is what goes into determining their durability. Consider these two factors during your search, as longevity is something you should consider to find the right tires. When you feel the effects of wear on your tires—such as deflation or tread quality—you may feel as though the quality of your car’s performance is lacking. Fortunately, if you equip your car with the tires it deserves, you may find yourself substantially more satisfied with your driving experience.
