This book took me into unfamiliar territory. It was exciting and there were plenty of surprises. Often a translation rings false or uneven – but this translation by Laurie Thomson spoke with a genuine voice and
was a pleasure to read. One could almost hear the narrator telling the story. However, one did wonder how a Swedish Policeman could ever get himself into quite such a precarious position, as he wondered himself. Still, it made a great storyline.
Fast-paced action, an interesting plot made almost believable by the skill of the storyteller and a chance to reflect upon how lucky I am, born in the free world.
If the test of a good book is wanting to read more by the same author – then this book passes the test with flying colours. I will be looking for more books by Henning Menkell.
