#1 The Power of respect by Deborah Norville
Who recommended this book? This was recommended by Elliot Robinson from Gun Smith Fitness. |
I relate to how this book approaches the general nuances of respect and how we can moel this virtue for children and teenagers. It covers mutual respect and highlights a number of considerate approaches that we can take when dealing with each other that promote goodwill. It also touches on corporate respect although not in depth. Deborah Norville’s style of writing is very inviting and thought provoking. While it is not a long read it is a deep one and very applicable to real life.

The tapestry of respect towards all individuals in our community is aptly covered in this book. The book feature six interesting, even quirky stories of respect and each promotes the notion of bettering ourselves to be better men and women. The common theme throughout all the stories is respect. I particularly loved the illustration of respect that each story brought out.

#5 Raising Respectful Children in a Disrespectful world by Jill Rigby
Who recommended this book? This was recommended by Elliot Robinson from Gun Smith Fitness. |
Approaching the subject of respect with children can get dicey but this book lays it out in black and white and uncomplicates things. The book distinguished between self-esteem and self-respect and how mistaking one for the other has resulting in disrespectful, ill-mannered kids. I enjoyed seeing her lay out the three different parenting styles that callout parent’s agendas in their parenting. Rigby goes on to share age-appropriate measures and boundaries for children during disciplining that will not create feelings of rejection and resentment.

The Self Confidence Workbook is an ideal guide to building more respect for yourself as well as others. While many books regarding the topic of respect deal with the theory behind respect, it’s rare to find a book that gives such practical application and instruction. The teaching dictated by Barbara Markaway is first class, as is her ability to take complex concepts and break them down into actionable steps and tips.
