#1 Dead Souls: A Novel by J. Lincoln Fenn
This book is one of the scariest and best to come down the pike in ages...The narrative twists and turns are reminiscent of Dean Koontz or Stephen King at their finest. This story is horribly, horrifyingly awesome.

#2 Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters
What is creepier on Halloween than the dead talking from their graves? The Spoon River Anthology is a compilation of free verse monologues told by the inhabitants of the Spoon River, Illinois grave yard.
Spoon River Anthology truly gave me the creeps when I first read it in high school. The dead coming back to life to talk about their lives--I could just see the ghosts floating in that grave yard.
In the story we learn about murders and secret love affairs. Lost dreams and lives well lived. Bitter wives and abusive husbands. Stories of life are woven together by the dead in a truly creepy and unforgettable way in the Spoon River Anthology.

#3 Violin by Anne Rice
It is the story of a woman who has gone insane after the death of her husband. The tale depicts the relationships between a middle-aged woman, a ghost violinist, and the ghost of Beethoven.
The woman has always longed to become a violinist, and after visiting parts of the ghost violinist’s life, becomes an instant virtuoso who now possesses his violin. I highly recommend to anyone who wants to break away from the blood and gore, and enjoy a good old-fashioned ghost story.

#4 The Creepypasta Collection by MrCreepyPasta
I'm not a big fan of stories that seem too unatural. I need stories to feel believable yet so damn scary to actually give me chills. And there are a lot of them in this book.
There's an entire movement on for example Reddit where people tell their creepypasta's. And the way they're personally written is what makes them better than regular ghost stories.

#6 Wild Escape by Chelsia Rose Marcius
What's scarier than haunted houses, twisted shadows, and things that go bump in the night? Murder, especially in the form of Wild Escape, a twisted true crime story about two convicted murderers who, aided by a prison seamstress, smuggled hacksaw blades, chisels, and drill bits inside the facility via a vat of raw hamburger meat, then sliced their way through steel cell walls, meandered through a maze of tunnels, climbed out of a manhole, and walked off into the night. Escape led to a manhunt, which led to betrayal, and finally the harrowing capture of the remaining convict.
