From the Contributor: I think 1984 by George Orwell is one of the greatest apocalyptic novels of all time. It encompasses all of the most terrifying aspects of our society — isolation, greed, exploitation — into a constricting, but addictive read that doesn’t feel very far from our current reality. What saves it from being as dreary as it could be is Orwell’s prose, but otherwise, I’ve never been more scared.
