As a psychology of eating expert who focuses on the why and how of eating, not the what of it, I wrote Nice Girls to help women make changes in their personalities to help them more easily become normal eaters. Unfortunately, many women put much of their energy into taking care of others and feel guilty doing any kind of self-care other than eating, and this is what leads them to put on weight. Making personality changes means letting go of traits such as people-pleasing, approval-seeking, and a success/failure mindset and becoming more attuned to internal self-care, self-assertion, developing incremental thinking skills and practicing self-trust.
