5 Simple Business Logo Design Tips

Creating a logo can be one of the trickiest parts of developing your business. The right choice will make a lasting impression on potential customers, so understanding how to design a business logo is critical. For your convenience, we’ve provided five easy business logo design tips that will kick-start your brainstorming sessions.

Tip # 1: Pay Attention to Color

Bright colors catch the eye, but can also be overwhelming. Muted colors seem classy, but they can easily go overlooked next to more vibrant logos. Therefore, it’s important to find a color or colors that reflect your company’s identity without appearing garish or fading into the background. Do some research to learn what different colors signify and what they make people feel—you’ll want to know what does and doesn’t suit the impression you want to make on potential customers.

Tip # 2: Play with Font

When it comes to font, try to create something that’s uniquely yours. Custom type makes a logo more distinct and memorable. Think of Coca-Cola—you’re probably imagining that timeless red label. Why? Because if a logo’s done well, the font will popularize along with the brand.

Tip # 3: Simplicity is key

Don’t overload your logo. Piling on a bunch of different colors and images can be too much for the eye and may actually turn heads away from your logo. However, you don’t want a lot of white space around your logo, either; instead, take advantage of negative space. Think about the FedEx logo and the hidden arrow that always gets people looking. Keep your logo interesting but simple; you don’t want people to have to stare for a long time to figure out its meaning.

Tip # 4: Create a story

A logo is like the prologue to your brand. The words and images should link together to create a design that says something about your company. This means that you need to thoroughly understand your brand and the company identity that you want to communicate to customers. Figuring out how to design a business logo isn’t easy, but understanding the story you want your logo to tell can help you focus on what’s important.

Tip # 5: Ask for help

If you get stuck, don’t be afraid to reach out for custom logo design help. There are many companies out there that can take over the task of imagining a new logo for your business. It’s important to have an idea of what you want, so approach your designer with a few different concepts in mind. These companies will cut down on your stress and help you develop an eye-catching logo that faithfully represents your brand.

Designing a logo is hard work, but we hope our business logo design tips will make the process smoother for you. With creativity, dedication, and perhaps a little help, you can put together a design that customers won’t soon forget.
