Malaysia
Consistently on the leader board for best places to retire, Malaysia offers retirees numerous reasons to stay. Southeast Asia, in general, has some of the most affordable retirement destinations in the world. Additionally, while not many countries rank high in terms of safety, Malaysia does. Plus, if the excellent health care doesn’t get you to consider, then maybe the miles and miles of breathtaking beaches will.

Not only is the cost of living significantly lower than the U.S., but a beautiful and luxurious apartment or home can be as little as $400 a month. You’ll notice low prices like these all over the country.
Costa Rica
Costa Rica has been attracting people to its borders for years, and many of them never end up leaving. The tropical climate’s natural beauty combined with affordable medical care and real estate make this an ideal country to retire to. There are plenty of places, such as Los Sueños, which offer benefits such as retiring right on the water. However, if you’re looking for something more metropolitan, there are excellent choices in the city—either way, you’re sure to meet warm and inviting people.

Austria
Countries in Europe don’t normally come up as top places to retire abroad since they can be a bit pricy. Austria, however, offers a happy environment and beautiful landscapes at a reasonable price. They’re consistently listed high on the World Happiness Report which is quite the feat. Many residents consider Austria the “Swiss alternative.”

Czech Republic
Another great choice in Europe, the Czech Republic does not get nearly as much credit as it should. Known as the castle capital of the world, it’s a wonderful place for those who love to explore. The expat community is still fairly small but is growing quickly, mainly due to the peaceful nature and enchanting atmosphere.

Another wonderful tropical retirement spot, Panama is modern, convenient, and close to the United States. Completely outside the hurricane belt, you won’t need to worry about severe weather like you would at other tropical spots. Additionally, this gorgeous country has a low tax burden, excellent health care, and an inviting atmosphere.
